Spend five minutes inside Carroll & Carroll Booksellers and you'll understand why regulars drive from 20 miles out just to browse. The shelves stretch from classical literature to quantum physics, from first editions in remarkable condition to the paperback thriller you've been hunting for weeks. This is not a place you pop into quickly. It's a place you lose track of time.

The back section alone is worth the trip. Devoted almost entirely to mystery, crime, and thrillers, it draws genre fans who describe going through it as genuinely fun, the kind of browsing that feels like a treasure hunt rather than a shopping errand. Alongside those shelves you'll find old editions that look like they belong behind glass, sitting right next to last month's releases.

With a 4.4-star rating built on 250 reviews, the store has earned its reputation the old-fashioned way: through honest curation, deep stock, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay. Located at 740 Main St in downtown Stroudsburg, Carroll & Carroll is the rare independent bookstore that somehow manages to have exactly what you didn't know you were looking for.

What We Offer

Customers regularly surface old editions in excellent condition, out-of-print titles, and collectible volumes that simply don't appear on mainstream retail sites. The pricing reflects the store's commitment to keeping books accessible, not just impressive.

For mystery and thriller lovers, the dedicated back section functions almost like a specialty shop within the shop. It's deep, well-organized, and stocked with both familiar names and authors you'll be glad you discovered. Whether you're building a personal library or just need something gripping for the weekend, this section delivers.

"This was a fabulous bookstore! While they had books from every genre they definitely focus on mystery crimes and thrillers in the entire back section of the bookstore! It was loads of fun to go through new and ancient tomes of books that I've Loved or no I will love. If you're a book lover this is a must stop book store."

"A great selection of books - I’ve not been to a bookstore (new OR secondhand) that had so many Agatha Christie novels. Also a number of Lee Child, Michael Crichton, and Clive Cussler. Pricing is at or slightly above other secondhand bookstores I’ve been to (I didn’t see a single hardcover for under $12, no matter how obscure). It’s well organized and absolutely worth a trip for the book lover."

"Great little bookstore with an absolutely amazing selection of history, plus a handful of new releases. Everything you could ever want is here, stacked two rows deep on the bookshelves and interspersed with every interesting article from the Pocono Record, possibly ever printed. Great staff, cozy spot, amazing book selection."
